The forest policy of Mexico is oriented towards the strengthening of the sustainable development of natural resources in the forest ecosystems through conservation, protection, restoration, support and production actions, with a long term, vision defined in the “Programa Estratégico Forestal para México 2025”. The main objectives of the Federal Administration 2007-2012 in matter of forestry resources are:
The Federal Government entities directly involved in the design and execution of the forestry policy, as well as the attention in the related subjects to forestry resources are the Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Environment and Natural Resources Secretary) –of which attributions are eminently normative– and the Comisión Nacional Forestal (National Forestry Commission) , a decentralized organism assigned to this secretary, which has the objective to develop and promote the productive activities, protection, conservation and restoration in forestry matter.
